ARTS 352

Project #2: Latin American Monster

Created and designed in Adobe Photoshop

I will have you know that this is so unlike anything that I have ever done. From the previous project, I think that you can determine that my art style is a little more cute and lovable...the Chupacabra is not. I struggled a lot with this project because I was not only making something based off of a very illusive description, but I was also creating something out of my usual art style. I had also tried to do something that looked a little more "realistic" and when I quickly realized that this was not something that would work, I went back to my "sketchy" style. At the end of the day, I was pretty happy with the final product.

The idea of this project was to make a commission piece based off of a description from a client. The Latin American Monster that I was assigned was the Chupacabra: a goat sucking, shape-shifting, lizard-dog creature that roams in the night. Through multiple iterations and lots of feedback, I was able to generate this. The project is set to be on display in the BSO Gallery at Chico State University.

Project #1: Character Creation

Created and designed in Adobe Photoshop

I was quite happy with how this character turned out. At the very beginning of this project, I was so stumped about what to do and I went through multiple iterations, trying to do something that I inevitably was not passionate about. When we were starting this project, the idea was to find our passions and then create a character off of that. I went back to that drawing board and realized that this was a good place to start.

The idea of this project was to create a character in three different poses: a front pose, an action pose, and a 3/4 pose. After I had rendered everything out, I wanted to play around with the emotions of the character a little more and sketch out some other facials, opposite to what a character artist would normally do. I am also happy to say that I have more images coming out of this character with my CAGD 345 class, including a turnaround, expression sheet, and, soon, a storyboard.
